Author Doug Dixon's Figgie's Fight for the Future: Harambee! (MAST Literacy, LLC, 2024) is a children's picture book based on the fascinating achievements of Kenya's Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Muta Maathai. Unlike other accounts though, the leading character is personified as "Figgie" and her fight is the challenge of overcoming obstacles--planting trees and making Kenya a model of democracy. The book's scenes, characters, and storyline are wonderfully illustrated to draw the reader‘s eye. Kids love it! The publisher MAST Literacy LLC is working with the Rotich T. Foundation to support kids' education in Kenya. We've just built a library in 2025 with cyber-interconnectivity with plans for much more.
